		Major changes announced to Ontario labour laws During an official announcement yesterday, the Ontario PC government unveiled the Making Ontario Open for Business Act, which will essentially undo some recent changes to labour laws made just months ago by the former Liberal government. The bill eliminates pay equity for part-time and casual workers, freezes minimum wage at $15 per hour, and plans to totally revamp the regulation of apprenticeship and skilled trades in the province. Report on 2018 work fatality and injury rates
The University of Regina has released a report comparing work related fatalities in Canada between 2011 and 2016 using data from the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada. Read the report online.

Humber Nurseries to cease retail operations
Leading Toronto-area garden retailer, Humber Nurseries in Brampton, Ont., recently announced it has sold its land in a deal closing this December. A new business focused on supplying the wholesale/landscape trade is planned to open in 2020 in Caledon, Ont.
