Town of Oakville to host the Sports Turf Association’s 24th Annual Field Day

Oakville is hosting the Sports Turf Association’s 24th Annual Field Day, on Sept. 22.

Oakville’s two beautiful harbours, creeks and shorelines, numerous parks, scenic nature trails, and sports fields form a great base for outdoor activities. The town boasts recreational amenities that include 12 community centres, four public libraries and 1,000 acres of parks with 141 sports fields.

Educational sessions include water conservation and irrigation control, weeds be gone, fertility and fertilizer technologies, to crime and the sports turf. The speaker roster includes Rob Cook, Rain Bird Canada Services; Pam Charbonneau, OMAFRA; Dr. Eric Lyons, University of Guelph, and Constable Carla Draper, Halton Regional Police Service. Three of the four sessions have been accredited by the IPM Council of Canada for Continuing Education Credits.

‘We would like to welcome everyone back to Oakville for a day of turf-focussed education’, says Jane Arnett, senior manager of Operations, Parks and Open Space. “The Sports Turf Association always provides the perfect balance of cutting-edge practices, equipment, and of course, networking. It is what we all do and this event shows us how we can all do it better.” She adds, “Oakville’s CAO Ray Green often says that Oakville is a great place for great people to do great things. The STA Field Day never disappoints – our staff always finishes the day engaged and pumped up to do more great things, new things.”

For topnotch turf education and the opportunity to network with peers and industry suppliers, head to Oakville, on Sept. 22, at the Glen Abbey Community Centre, 1415 Third Line, Oakville.
