Sheridan announces appointments to board of directors

Sheridan Nurseries, Georgetown, has announced the following appointments to its board of directors. They are effective as of July 1, 2009.

William (Bill) Stensson � Chief Executive Officer (CEO)



(formerly President)

Bill Stensson joined Sheridan Nurseries in 1974, working in many areas of the business, including inventory control, grading, shipping and production planning. Bill has been active in industry activities, serving both Landscape Ontario and the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association where he is currently first vice-president.
Karl E. Stensson � President



(formerly Senior Vice-President, Retail Operations)

Karl Stensson has served Sheridan Nurseries since 1977. As a dedicated industry supporter for over 30 years, he has served as president of Landscape Ontario and president of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. He has received many industry awards, as well as the Landscape Ontario Honourary Life Membership, the highest award LO bestows.
Rick Friesen � Senior Vice-President, Finance and Administration



(formerly Vice-President, Finance & Administration)

Friesen joined Sheridan Nurseries in 1985. He has been on various committees and groups during his time at Sheridan Nurseries, representing a range of activities for Landscape Ontario and CNLA.

Pieter Joubert � Vice-President, Nursery Operations



(formerly Nursery Operations Manager)

Joubert joined Sheridan in May 2002, overseeing the operations of the nursery activities. He holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School in Scotland and has held many key management positions with several multi-national companies, specializing in multi-disciplinary project management, advanced manufacturing, industrial engineering and logistics.

Art Vanden Enden � Vice-President, Garden Centre Operations



(formerly Garden Centre Operations Manager)

Vanden Enden is a 31-year industry veteran, starting his career at Weall & Cullen in 1978 and joining Sheridan Nurseries in 2003 with Sheridan’s acquisition of Weall & Cullen. He has been an active supporter of Landscape Ontario, and currently serves on the Garden Centre Sector Group and the Environmental Stewardship Committee. Art is a Certified Horticultural Technician graduate and served as the retail chairperson for the Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT) program for two years.

Valerie Stensson � Vice-President, Marketing & Purchasing



(formerly Marketing & Merchandise Manager)

Valerie Stensson has been a part of the Sheridan team since 1988. She has held the positions of buyer, followed by marketing manager and most recently combining both areas of responsibility as the marketing and merchandise manager. Stensson has been active in the industry serving as new products judge for the Canadian Hardware show, as a member of the marketing committee for Landscape Ontario, as well as the Canada Blooms marketplace committee. She is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for Wilfrid Laurier University, School of Business.


The above six persons as well as Manuel Sobrinho, vice-president, nursery sales, will form the executive committee of the company. Sheridan Nurseries operates nine retail garden centres, five wholesale pick-up yards and has over 900 acres of hardy ornamental nursery stock and perennials. Sheridan supplies garden centres and landscapers in central and eastern Canada, north-eastern and central United States and Europe.
