PIC Examiners Re-certification, Apr. 8

Last year’s passing of legislation implementing a ban on the cosmetic use of pesticide has had a significant effect on the Pesticide Technician Program (PTP).

In order for the Pesticide Industry Council (PIC) to maintain its high standard of training for the Pesticide Technician Program (PTP), the PIC executive is implementing a required “Examiner Re-certification Program” to update examiners on the changes.

To achieve re-certification, PIC Examiners are required to take a new training session and then re-sign the Examiner Code of Ethics.

To reduce costs training will initially be done through a webinar (delivered and attended through the Internet). The training seminar will consist of an overview of the new regulations, how they will affect licensed exterminators, operators and technicians. It is estimated that the webinar will take just over two hours.

The seminar is open to anyone, however in order for PIC Examiners to qualify for re-certification a payment must be made. The cost of the Examiner re-certification is $75, and includes the new Technician Manual. Re-certifying PIC Examiners may purchase Technician kits at the same time as purchasing re-certification.

Suzanne Durst, Pesticides Specialist, Ministry of the Environment, Hamilton, and
Crystal Lafrance, Pesticides Specialist, Ministry of the Environment, London, will conduct the Pesticide Technician Program seminar.
The webinar will begin at 10 a.m. on Thurs., Apr. 8. To register and make payment, contact the PIC, email pic@landscapeontario.com.
