A career horticulturist and long-time Landscape Ontario member Melanie Karleen Hicks passed away on Feb. 15, at the age of 40. Melanie was an independent sales representative for Leo Gentry Wholesale Nursery of Damascus, Oregon, in the Ontario and Quebec territory. She was formerly employed by Kato’s Nursery, Abbotsford, B.C., Kobes Nursery, Bowmanville, Ont., Angelo’s Garden Center, Concord, Ont. and PAO Horticultural, Hornby, Ont. She is remembered for her exuberant and infectious personality and passion for horticulture. Funeral arrangements have been made at Good Fellow Funeral Home, 11014 Road #38, Parham, Ont. (north of Kingston), 613-375-6254, On Sat., Feb. 28, visitation is at 12 noon, and the funeral begins at 1:00 p.m. There will also be a memorial coffee, tea and appetizers in Melanie’s honour on Sun., Mar. 8th, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Garden Hall at the Toronto Botanical Gardens, hosted by PAO Horticultural and Paul Offierski.
