If you are a graduate from Algonquin College’s Horticulture diploma program, we would love to hear from you. As you may know, the program is in jeopardy and individuals within the horticulture and landscaping industry are brainstorming in an effort to re-design and save it. We need your help to discover how you would envision the program: it could be as simple as what worked and what didn’t. The Snow and Ice Sector Group of Landscape Ontario, in conjunction with the Ontario Parks Association, will host Partnering for Success. The annual snow and ice symposium and equipment display program will feature two days of education seminars focused on running and effectively managing snow removal and Ice management operations. A large display of equipment and technology will also be offered throughout the day, Sept. 1 and 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Kitchener, Ont.

Visit the University of Guelph annual trials at the LO office in the morning, and see for yourself how next year’s crop of new plants performs in the landscape. Trial garden manager, Rodger Tschanz will present his findings. In the afternoon, follow him to the University of Guelph trial gardens at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute to learn how the new plants fared in another zone. The public is invited to tour the gardens at LO on Aug. 21, 
Hear Dutch designer Jacqueline van der Kloet speak on bulbs, in a special member-only lecture Sept. 16 at the Toronto Botanical Garden. Her stylish naturalistic designs combine brilliant mixes of perennials and flower bulbs, and her talk will be specifically tailored to industry professionals. The event features continental breakfast, lecture at 9:00 a.m. and a post-lecture tour. Tickets are $15.

The first 1st annual Ontario Parks Association Equipment Education and Golf Forum. The event will take place at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club, Milton. Registration is at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. A shotgun start is at 8:15 a.m. The event includes a barbecue lunch, with the keynote item at 2:10 p.m., entitled, The Drive to Reduce Emissions, Tier 4 Engines, followed by Hand Held Equipment Emissions Update, 2 vs 4 cycle and Hybrids in Park Applications, including biofuels and smart cars. 
The birdhouse design project ‘For the Birds’ was initiated to bring attention to the mandate of the Toronto Botanical Garden to promote environmental awareness through education, enlighten the community to the plight of songbirds, promote wildlife preservation, ecological awareness and sustainability. The selected birdhouses will be auctioned at the fundraising event, the ‘Flocktail‘ party, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $175 per person. To purchase tickets, go to
