Ministry of Labour officials are visiting landscape construction sites and issuing tickets on the spot for Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) offences. Contractors need to be aware that MoL officials are treating landscape construction sites the same as other construction sites, and should familiarize themselves with their responsibilities under the OHSA.
Terry Murphy, manager of Human Resource Development at Landscape Ontario, reports that green industry members who have taken part in the Safe Communities Incentive Program (SCIP) or in LO’s Safety Groups have a better understanding of the OHSA and, in general, are not being fined upon inspection.
