G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph awarded $1.2 million grant to continue groundbreaking work
On May 2, 2022, the University of Guelph highlighted research achievements and future priorities of the dedicated Lyme disease research program.
With tick season underway, Canada’s first research facility for Lyme disease receives renewed funding.
Improving diagnosis and treatment is the goal for researchers at the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab who study the bacterial pathogen that causes the disease.
The lab was created in 2017 thanks to a generous gift from the G. Magnotta Foundation for Vector-Borne Diseases. This year, the foundation will renew its funding for the research program.
On hand for the funding announcement were: Rossana Magnotta, founder and president of the G. Magnotta Foundation, a non-profit organization named in memory of her husband, Gabe Magnotta, who lost
his battle with Lyme disease in 2009; Dr. Charlotte Yates, University of Guelph president; Dr. Melanie Wills, director of the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab; Dr. Mazyar Fallah, dean of U of G’s College of Biological Science.
