Nobleton Lakes Golf and Country Club, just outside of Toronto, provided the perfect backdrop for the annual tournament and offered the golfers a challenging, but beautiful course.
After a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., the golfers worked their way through the course, stopping for refreshments, including the well-loved ice cream cart, courtesy of Marty Lamers of Allan Block Retaining Walls.
Raising funds for the Hospital for Sick Children, golfers participated in a number of contests, including two hole-in-one contests, sponsored by New Roads National Leasing and Golfers Green. The two prizes, a new GMC truck and a trip for two to North Carolina, went unclaimed again this year, with no one able to sink the ball. The putting contest raised just over $1,000, with many golfers trying to attain the top score needed to win the CD system, provided by Humber Nurseries and Perma Paving Stone Company. Greg Stillie earned the highest marks, with a score of 12 out of a possible 20.
After the last team completed the course, all golfers moved to the clubhouse for a wonderful barbecue steak lunch, prepared by Nobleton Lakes staff. After lunch and after all scores were tallied, LO’s golf tournament organizers announced the winners of the tournament (see sidebar).
Frans Peters’ annual post-golf tournament party was again held at the Peters’ residence, with golfers able to take a dip in the pool to cool off, or to play a hand of Texas Hold-Em in the Peters’ games room.
The organizing committee would like to extend special thanks to all of the hole sponsors, and those who donated to the raffle table.
Participants were able (and encouraged) to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win the items on the raffle table. Sales were brisk, with volunteer ticket sellers bringing in over $2,000. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Hospital for Sick Children.
Special thanks to the organizing committee of Frans Peters, Frank Corrado, Charlie Wilson, Jeff Olsen and Wendy Jespersen for organizing such a top-rate tournament.
