City of Toronto launched an intensive, multi-year water efficiency project, the 2005 Water Efficient Landscape Audit Program, designed to educate homeowners about the benefits of water-efficient gardening and lawn care. They require:


Water-Efficient Landscape Advisors

Responsibilities include: conducting landscape audits for residents, outlining principles of water-efficient gardening and lawn care, staffing information booths at public events and participating garden centres, visiting participating program partners to stock literature and rain gauges, performing deliveries, inventories, garden maintenance and office work as required and attending garden centre workshops to introduce the program.


Skills: must be presently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a college/university program related to the position (environmental science, horticulture, forestry, landscape design), must be outgoing and comfortable talking to a variety of people daily, must be able to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent communication and decision-making skills and have a basic knowledge of environmentally friendly gardening principles. The candidate must also be willing to work outdoors in all weather, must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s licence and vehicle insurance, and have daily access to a computer and e-mail. Knowledge of gardening techniques, landscaping basics and plant species an asset, as well as customer service and computer software experience (MS Word, MS Excel).

Hours: June 6 to September 2, approximately 40 hours per week (Monday and Tuesdays off)

Pay: $15 per hour plus business mileage
