Funded by the MTCU, Job Connect assists youth (16 to 24 years of age) in finding employment. Employers can provide on-the-job training to a young person who is eager and ready to be trained and become a skilled member of the horticulture industry, with a portion of the wages subsidized by the MTCU ($2 an hour for Summer Jobs Service and up to $4,000 for apprenticeships). Employers must have third party liability insurance and coverage under the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (or alternative workplace safety insurance).
In addition, Job Connect is pleased to announce a new Apprenticeship Scholarship and Signing Bonus initiative. This program encourages young people to complete the academic requirements for apprenticeship and become eligible for a $1,000 scholarship once they have been signed as an apprentice. It also offers a $2,000 signing bonus to participating employers who provide these apprentices with training opportunities.
Candidates must be under 25 years of age, but can be currently employed.
Job Connect supports trial placements of up to two weeks with full subsidy based on minimum wage. This allows employer and employee an opportunity to assess the suitability of the individual for the position. Job Connect may also cover the cost of safety equipment, work boots, hard hats, etc. to a maximum of $100.
