Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Program
Attention: Landscape Ontario members
From: Terry Murphy, manager, Human Resource Development, Landscape Ontario
Seats are still available in the Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Programs
Please be advised that two new Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Programs Courses have been added for the 2006 winter term. These are both 8 week Basic Level 1 programs. One will start at Humber College North Campus in Toronto on February 13, 2006 and the other is scheduled for G.L.Roberts High School in Oshawa starting January 30, 2006. Both programs having openings and candidates can complete their training before the spring season starts.
These programs are for people registered in the Provincial Government HT Apprenticeship Program. This Program is open to all industry employees regardless of age. Why should your firm and your employees consider such a program? Four key reasons: 1. The Employee will be a better employee as their knowledge and skill level will increase. 2. The Employer benefits because not only does productivity go up but also the apprentice shares his/her new skills with other employees. 3. The government pays 85% of the tuition cost. 4. The other great feature is that one can be on winter layoff and EI benefits are available to the apprentice while taking the training.
Registration can be easily completed by calling your local Provincial Government apprenticeship office for a training consultant to visit you, presenting the employees’ Grade 12 Transcript of their marks, and having a cheque for $40 as a registration fee. This can be done in a day.
Act now and you can still enroll into the training and have your employee ready to go to work by April 1 when we start the 2006 spring season.
Call your local apprenticeship office ( or the provincial number 1-888-562-4769 or 416-326-5656) or myself at 1-800-265-5656 x 317 at the Landscape Ontario office. This is a great chance to get an excellent training program completed before spring.
Yours very truly,
