Grower of the year award

CNLA has announced a new award to honour the Canadian grower of the year. According to executive director Victor Santacruz, the sector doesn’t have a national award.

He says that the first national award will be presented at Vancouver in 2011. The Royal Bank of Canada has come as the national sponsor.

“We hope to encourage our provincial associations to create their own grower of the year award. From each province, we will then decide on a national winner,” said Santacruz. That national winner will then be entered into the international competition.

Santacruz says it was felt that by recognizing our top growers, it helps continue the positive promotion of Canada’s production. With a very successful International Grower of the Year program, the International Association of Horticultural Producers and FloraCulture International decided to promote the competition.
