Brochure produced on pest controls


The Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation and Landscape Ontario have produced a brochure entitled Alternative Pest Controls for Turf in Ontario. The two-page document contains a section on tips for a healthy lawn and also a section on scientific literature of alternative pest controls, which includes corn gluten meal, Sarritor, acetic acid, fatty acid and nematodes. LO and the CFL

Safety Groups can save money


The Safety Groups Program (SGP), a five-year voluntary program of the WSIB that rewards firms that implement effective health and safety and return to work measures into daily business, is now accepting new members. At the beginning of each year, your firm selects five safety elements that it will initiate or improve upon from the Safety Groups’ Achievement List provided by the WSIB. At the end of the year, your group can receive a rebate based on the entire group’s success in implementing the selected safety elements. The fee is $175 per firm for the year, with a maximum of 25 participants. For more information on the 2010 program, click here.

CHT test days


Sign up now for the CHT re-test at LO home office in Milton on Sept. 24 and 25. Order the manual so that you can practice in the workplace before test day. To register and order manuals, click here. Certified industry members looking to volunteer and gain renewal points, indicate which date and which station you prefer to judge.

Landscape Ontario, in partnership with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, is offering the opportunity for our members to pre-register employees to begin their apprenticeship pathway to success in the Landscape Horticulture Trade.
