Foundation supporter wins a Harley

Jay Murray of Tender Lawn Care Ltd. in London bought the winning ticket for the Harley Davidson special edition motorcycle, the prize in this year’s Ontario Horticultural Trades Foundation fundraising raffle.

Murray spent $100 for six tickets at Congress, and says, “I didn’t mind making a $100 donation to education, and if I got lucky, so much the better.” He certainly did get lucky, and has several plans in mind for the bike. One is to mothball it, another to ride. Murray has been motorcycle licensed for 20 years, and says if he does take the bike on the road, its plate will read “LO HOG.” The win was not the only exciting event of Murray’s week – he is also the father of a new baby.

Foundation volunteers spent plenty of effort to promote the bike raffle, trailering it to trade shows and events around the province. Foundation president John Wright, who drew the winning ticket, says the bike raffle “was very successful in raising the Foundation’s profile. Up to now, the Foundation has been our industry’s best-kept secret.” He extends sincere thanks to all ticket buyers, as well as the many sellers. Wright noted that the Foundation awarded 23 scholarships last year, and will be reviewing twice as many applications this fall.
