April/May Interiorscape Group Update

Congratulations to the Interiorscape Group, which the association’s provincial board of directors officially recognized at their last meeting. The group has been hard at work since their original application, however, and has identified and addressed a number of issues of concern to their industry sector. Industry certification is also a priority for this group and, with a number of alternatives already under investigation; it is quite possible this option will soon be available to the interior landscape sector. A sub-committee has also been formed to look at the issue of industry standards and guarantees. An initial draft will be presented to the group for their consideration later this month. Other projects include the inclusion of the interiorscape sector in the Awards of Excellence Program and a group trip to the Ohio Florists’ Association Short Course, held every year in July.

In the past, educational conferences, held at and with the support of, the Royal Botanical Gardens, were a popular event in the interior landscape industry. Regrettably, funding cutbacks meant the discontinuation of this well-attended event. Recognizing the need to increase the association’s profile in the interior landscape sector, the Interiorscape Group hopes to revive this annual event. The logistics will be considered by Landscape Ontario staff this coming season and further details will be published in future issue of Horticulture Review.
