Hello Employers of the Golden Horseshoe and Waterloo Chapters,
We are pleased to present to you a potential program that will help address skilled workforce supply demand within the region; creating a funnel of new skilled workers for your companies.
Recently the Ontario Government announced that they will support Pre-Apprenticeship training programs, and have asked organizations from across the province to submit proposals. The program is intended to identify, train and develop future professionals for the skilled trades – providing practical skills that will benefit them on the job (through in-class and hands on Apprenticeship training).
Landscape Ontario is submitting a proposal in partnership with The Career Foundation and Mohawk College that will serve the needs of our profession.The proposed program will be a 15 week in class term, that would provide level 1 Horticultural Technician pre-apprenticeship training, with an additional 2 weeks of practical carpentry skills training. Participants will have an 8-12 week on-the-job paid placement with Landscape and Horticulture companies in the region. Upon successful completion, students will have their level 1 in-class apprenticeship training, hands-on experience and be better prepared for careers in our profession.
We are asking employers to complete the attached letter of support if they are interested in participating in and supporting this program. We are looking for employer sponsors, guest speakers, work sites to tour, etc. The more employers that engage, the better the program will be for the participants!
If you and your company are interested, please follow the steps below to add yourself to the list of potential ‘Employer Supporters/Participants’, no later than; Wednesday, November 21st 2018 at 12:00 p.m.

1- Download the ‘Template Letter of Support‘ (click here to download).
2- Copy and paste the content onto your letterhead.
3- Fill in the company information where there are yellow highlights identified in the document (remove the highlighting)
4- Check off the boxes that reflect your firm’s level of support
5- Print, sign, and scan the letter
6- Email it directly to Alex Gibson, jagibson@landscapeontario.com
