Hi Everyone,
Most members tell me it has been a challenging year, mostly because of the weather but also because of the volatility of the world economy. They also tell me that the association should do what it can to stimulate demand for our members products and services. Thankfully, the federal government has just provided us an opportunity to raise awareness for our individual companies and the importance of what we do. September 21 has been declared National Tree Day by the government. This is a perfect event for all of us to participate in. Here are some ideas:
- Landscape Contractors: Contact your local school and offer to plant a tree to commemorate National Tree Day. Work with the school to teach children about the importance of planting trees. Invite local councilors and other government officials to participate. Register your event on the National Tree Day website and you will receive a certificate from the Prime Minister. As an Association we will be planting a Native Maple (donated by Maple Leaves Forever) at Parkwood National Historic Site in Oshawa. The Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will be presiding over the ceremony.
- Growers: Please raise awareness for National Tree Day to all your customers. Promote special sales. Perhaps you can develop some point of purchase materials to promote sales of trees.
- Garden Centres: Promote National Tree Day to your customers. Send out an email or newsletter about the importance of planting trees. Tell your customers about the National Tree Day Website and the Registry. A certificate from the Prime Minister is an important motivator.
- Grounds Maintenance, Lawn Care, Irrigation Companies : Encourage your industrial, commercial, instiutional and residential clients to host National Tree Day plantings. This activity will promote good relations and good will.
