The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed the presence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) in the city of Brampton, Ontario, in the Dixie Road and Steeles Avenue area.Eab has since been detected in the 8th line and 403 area of Oakville and in Ottawa.
The CFIA will be surveying in the immediate areas where the EAB was found to determine the extent of this infestation. Regulatory decisions on appropriate control measures will be made once more information is available from these surveys.
All area residents can play a key part in helping to control the spread of EAB by not moving the insect or materials such as firewood, logs, branches, nursery stock, chips or other ash wood. Moving these materials even just a few kilometres away can spread the emerald ash borer to new areas.
