GreenTrade Expo 2007 in Ottawa

The 14th annual GreenTrade Expo was held at Lansdowne Park on February 14. A little bit of snow didn’t put a damper on the show — 700 industry professionals attended.

This year’s show featured 100 companies and thousands of products for all sectors of the horticulture industry. Many brand new products were introduced to the market at the show, including the new Screen King screener, Liquid Proof leather work boot by STI Safety and the Micro Pondless water feature by Aquascape Designs.
The morning seminar featured Koos Torenvliet of Environmental Design Landscape Contractors, speaking on green roofs. Over 100 people attended to hear about green roofs, their history, environmental and economic benefits, construction principles and some case studies from across North America. In the afternoon, three inspectors from the MTO discussed the most-asked question this year: How will the new Hours of Service regulation affect companies and employees?

Visitors enjoyed the all-day coffee bar, sponsored by Twin Equipment, as well as the complimentary lunch sponsored by B & T MacFarlane, Brandt Tractor, Carrier & Poirier, Manotick Tree Movers, Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance, Petersen’s Turf Farms, Ritchie Feed & Seed, Turf Revolution and Yates Custom Lawn Sprinklers. Thanks also go to Greely Sand and Gravel for sponsoring the show guide, Connon Nurseries/NVK Holdings for sponsoring the seminar area, Manderley Turf Products for sponsoring the show bag and Techo-Bloc for sponsoring the chapter meeting. Thanks to all our sponsors — your generosity and support over the years is much appreciated.

GreenTrade offered a prize draw for people who registered online at
www.greentrade.ca. Local website development company Full Dimension Group, and web hosting company My Website Made Easy, sponsored the prize — a new website with one year of free web hosting. The winner was Bruce Cameron of Ashbury Landscaping and Consulting. Full Dimension Group also gave away a website critique, won by Sharon and Chris Urquhart of Green Unlimited.

Mark your calendars for next year’s big 15th annual event on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Lansdowne Park.
