Glittering Awards program salutes family

A theme honouring the legacy of family, Through Generations, resonated with audience and industry at the 2006 Awards of Excellence ceremony.

Held on Jan. 9 in conjunction with Congress, the elaborately-staged event honoured excellent work done by LO members in construction, maintenance and design. Expert judges evaluated the entries, and used a point system to bestow Awards of Excellence on work representing the industry’s best.

Three generations of the Vanderkruk family, representing Connon Nurseries NVK, opened the evening, and six other generation pairs presented Awards.

John Wright and Paul Olsen, both respected leaders in LO, received honourary lifetime memberships during the ceremony – presented by their sons in both cases. Attendees agreed these presentations highlighted the evening.

The most coveted Awards went to Stonetech Corporation, winner of the Casey van Maris Award, Cavan’s Landscape Design/Build, winning the Grounds Management Award and Kent Ford Design Group, winner of the Dunington Grubb Award.

Attendance at the event was 500. “The crowd was especially enthusiastic this year, with a nice energy,” according to Kristen McIntyre, LO Awards coordinator. McIntyre works on the Awards program year-round, and invites LO members to watch for next year’s secret, surprise theme.
