Safety pays: WSIB premium rates drop again
Since 1998, when Workers Safety Insurance Board premium rates hit an all-time high in all sectors, the horticulture industry has worked hard to instill a safety consciousness in its workers. The result has been a consistent decrease in the rates, and in 2005, most rates will drop again.Industry members have joined a number of initiatives, including the Safe Communities Incentive Program (SCIP), that sees companies establish a safety committee in the workplace, enforce safety procedures and provide ongoing safety training to new and existing employees.
