A Ministerial Order was signed recently, this Order invokes a quarantine to prevent the spread of Emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis). This means that all
* ash nursery stock
* ash trees and parts thereof (living or dead)
* and ALL species of firewood
have been placed under quarantine in the City of Windsor, Town of LaSalle, Town of Tecumseh, Town of Amherstburg and Town of Essex. This borer tunnels in the cambium, and has been linked to the decline of thousands of red and green ash trees in Michigan. Infested trees have bark that is cracked, that when peeled off will show serpentine tunnels on the underside of the bark and into the cambium. The larval stage is present at this time. If you have seen signs of borers on ash in the nursery or landscape/forest, please call your local Canadian Food Inspection Agency office. For more information on EAB, see:
