This is an update that will be in the newsbrief coming out in the next week.
The directive (D-01-04) was published in August 2001 and revised on February 25, 2002 to clarify the language of some sections,
recognize equivalence in nomenclature for cultivars of Japanese Barberry (JB) and to remove the requirements for buckthorn.
Meetings between CFIA and USDA to amend it to accommodate USDA requests have been ongoing. The 2nd revision will be posted
within a few days to two weeks.
The CFIA permit office had been instructed to hold onto import permit applications that contained only JB until the directive is published in
the CFIA web site. Permit applications that were submitted and contained an assortment of plant material including JB will have been
issued but the JB will have been denied. These permit orders for JB will have to be re-submitted.
It is suggested that importers apply now.
