Upper Canada Golf Tournament, July 15
Plan to take a break from your busy season, and join the Upper Canada Chapter for a
fun day on the links at Briar Fox Golf Club, Marysville. Registration
begins at 9 a.m., with tee-off at 10. The day will conclude with a
steak dinner and prizes. Cost is only $100 per golfer, which
includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, steak dinner and prizes. If you
register your foursome before June 30, there is a 10 per cent discount off the

Progress report on salt study released
The first Optimum Salting for Parking Lots and Sidewalks interim
progress report has been released. The report was authored by Liping Fu and
Raqib Omer, both of the University of Waterloo. The primary goal of this research project is to develop
a better understanding of the conditions that influence the effectiveness of
various commonly-used deicing and anti-icing treatments for parking lots and
sidewalks, and to develop knowledge for optimum selection of materials,

Support Foundation and win cash
Try your

Encourage customers despite late
Spring

Landscape Ontario has issued a press release encouraging the
gardening public to forge ahead with their gardening and landscaping plants,
despite the late spring. This release is available to
members in electronic format
to customize with their own contact
information and hand out to customers and local media. 

Apprenticeship tax credit
The Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit is a non-refundable tax credit
equal to 10 per cent of the eligible salaries and wages payable to
apprentices in respect of employment after May 1, 2006. The maximum
credit an employer can claim is $2,000 per year. The contract must be
registered with the federal, or provincial government under an
apprenticeship program in Red Seal Trade. If you are an employer, you
may claim the credit on your Individual Income Tax Return, on line 412 –
Investment tax credit, by filing Form T2038(IND), Investment Tax Credit
(Individuals). Go to Canada Revenue for more information.

Eloquip celebrates 25 years
Eloquip Ltd. is marking its 25th anniversary with
an open house on June 3, in Elora. Eloquip is taking the opportunity to
express appreciation to all its customers and suppliers, who are invited to
attend the event that day, starting at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The gala event will include a free barbecue,

Landscape Industry Certification orientation, June 4

Landscape Industry Certified Technician Pre-test day orientation will be
held June 4 at the Landscape Ontario home office in Milton. Rsvp to Rachel

Students can apply for flowerbulb scholarship

The North American Flowerbulb Wholesalers Association is offering
students a $1,500 scholarship. The successful applicant must be a
student in a field related to flowerbulbs in some form, in the academic
year 2011-2012. All application forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. July
31, 2011, attached with a 400- to 500-word essay about flowerbulbs. The
successful applicant will be notified by Dec. 20, 2011. To find out more

Ontario Parks Association has some exciting and informative workshops
coming up in May. Spaces are limited, register now so you don’t miss

Certification practical test, July 22
Prove your competence by challenging the Landscape
Industry Certification practical test on Fri., July 22 at the Landscape Ontario
home office. We are currently accepting registrations for both new test and
re-test applicants. Space is limited, so register early. For further

Advanced Green Roof Maintenance seminar, July 26
Created
to assist designers, contractors, facility managers with an important, but
often overlooked aspect of green roofs: maintenance. The seminar examines
design phase considerations; best practices for planning, budgeting, and
implementing maintenance procedures; and approaches for rehabilitating green
roofs that have been subject to maintenance neglect. The seminar will take
place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at LO home office in Milton. Participants will
receive a 100-page manual with detailed case studies. Lunch is not included. Price
for LO members is $249, and for non-members it is $299. To find out more about
