An exclusive peek at Canada Blooms the Flower & Garden Festival

March 16-20, 2011

ParklaneEarth Tones is the innovative garden created this year by Parklane Nurseries. “As a tribute to Earth’s rhythmic beat, Earth Tones responds to the ambience of the native landscape. A repetitive spiral leads to a drummer’s lookout where the rhythms of nature resonate in the soul. The space provokes an intimate co-dependent relationship between us and our environment. Meandering deeper into the garden, one will be met with an invitation to express their unique creative spirit and opportunity to explore the unknown.” Parklane was the winner of four 2010 Canada Blooms Feature Garden Awards including the Evergreen Brick Works SEED Award.

Tips From the Pros

Mark CullenTrees, shrubs, evergreens, roses and even large perennials grown in containers can be planted at any time of the day and in virtually any weather, as long as you remember that:
1. no plant will perform well if you allow it to sit in the sun to dry out before planting.  2.  All plants benefit from a well-prepared planting hole.  If you cannot plant for a few days or more after taking delivery of nursery stock, it is best stored on the shady side of your home and hand-watered as the top two centimeters of soil become dry.  Windy weather will necessitate more frequent watering.  Different plants will have different Mark's Choice

Tips From the Pros

Mark CullenAt the 2011 Canada Blooms’ competitive flower show, Blooming Art, the floral designs are all original works of art.  The Garden Hall will be transformed into an art gallery with a magnificent show of both traditional, modern and contemporary art and sculpture. The competition will include framed works of floral art with retrospective interpretations of Art Deco and Art Nouveau style, table designs recreating a luncheon in an impressionist’s garden, large sculptural designs and so much more!  Blooming Art – an exhibition of floral art at its best – don’t miss it!!
