Join members of the LO Ottawa Chapter for the 5th Annual Day of Tribute on Fri., Nov. 5, at the National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery. All members are welcome to honour our armed forces by volunteering their time with fertilizing, over-seeding, planting, tree care, pruning and mulching. Loyalist College needs registrants for apprenticeship program

Loyalist College is planning to include a Horticultural
Apprenticeship program, conditional upon the number of registered
apprentices. Preliminary numbers indicate there are enough potential
apprentices to allow the program to proceed, but students must register
by mid-November. Fill out a pre-registration form

Chainsaw safety course, Nov. 8-9

The
Ministry of Labour requires that all landscapers using chainsaws on
the job are trained on their safe operation. This two-day seminar on
Nov. 8 and 9 helps satisfy these requirements. The second day will be
spent in the field working on techniques and safe operation while
cutting trees. Both seminars begin each day at 8:30 a.m., and go until 4

Waterloo Fall Freeze-up, Nov. 19
This year’s Fall Freeze-up has an all-new location, the Waterloo Inn, 475 King Street North, Waterloo, and features a new menu. The

LO members raise funds for a good cause

Ryan Heath CLP, CLT, provincial board representative for the
Toronto Chapter, has registered an LO team for the Movember
awareness campaign for men’s health, which also acts as

Save money with Safety Groups


The 2011 Safety Groups Program is set to begin a new season. Designed to promote health and safety in
the workplace, this program provides mentoring, pooling of
resources and sharing of best practices between member firms, their
sponsor and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Member
firms can receive, along with improved safety records, financial
benefits in the form of rebates from the WSIB.
The Safety Groups Program is administered by the WSIB. It has received high approval ratings from
participating members.

From
now to mid-November, there will be NO ACCESS to the LO site from
Steeles Ave. The LO home office is only accessible from Derry Road, on
the south. Please see the detour map. Signs are also placed along the detour routes.
