Help chapter honour our armed forces, Nov. 5
Join members of the LO Ottawa Chapter for the 5th Annual Day of Tribute on Fri., Nov. 5, at the National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery. All members are welcome to honour our armed forces by volunteering their time with fertilizing, over-seeding, planting, tree care, pruning and mulching. Coffee and networking are at 8:30 a.m., followed at 9 a.m. by the opening ceremonies. The event will run until noon. Lunch and learn chapter meeting, Nov. 16
Mark your calendars for November 16th for the second lunch and
learn Ottawa Chapter meeting at the RA centre.  Our guest speaker will
be Mr. Mark Buchshon, publisher and editor of the Ottawa
Construction News. Meeting begins at 11 am. Lunch at noon. Light lunch is

In memoriam

George Rofner, owner of Richmond Nursery passed away peacefully, in his sleep, Sat., Oct. 23, at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Claudia (nee Mattel). Loving father of Peter (Sue Secord) and Debbie (Curt Millar). Cherished grandfather of Jakob. Dear brother of Hedwig and Mali, both of Germany. Will be fondly remembered by his family and friends in Germany and Canada. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata, on Sat., Oct. 30, from 2 – 4p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held Mon. Nov. 1 at St. Philip’s Church, 127 Burke, St., Richmond, at 2 p.m. In memoriam donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Duck’s Unlimited are appreciated by the family.

Salt application study looking for participants
The Snow and Ice Management Sector Group of Landscape Ontario has commissioned a research study aimed at developing an optimum and defensible standard for salt application rates for parking lots. The research team wants to extend the data collection outside the Waterloo area. Tricon Films and Television has extended the deadline to Nov. 5 for
casting submissions for a female garden
landscape artist/designer to host a new outdoor show. The person must be
between the ages of 25 to 38, with a strong portfolio of work. Television
experience is preferred, but not a requirement. Send a headshot, resume,
demo reel (if you have one), and a sample of your portfolio to gardener@triconfilms.com.

Save money with Safety Groups

The 2011 Safety Groups Program is set to begin a new season. Designed to promote health and safety in
the workplace, this program provides mentoring, pooling of
resources and sharing of best practices between member firms, their
sponsor and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Member
firms can receive, along with improved safety records, financial
benefits in the form of rebates from the WSIB.
The Safety Groups Program is administered by the WSIB. It has received high approval ratings from
participating members.

New web HQ for provincial health and safety
Ontario’s online health and safety information is now united under Health & Safety Ontario, www.healthandsafetyontario.ca. Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), a new group made up of the former Farm Safety Association and two other initiatives, is one of the site’s featured portals.

Road work at LO home office
From
now to mid-November, there will be NO ACCESS to the LO site from
Steeles Ave. The LO home office is only accessible from Derry Road, on
the south. Please see the detour map. Signs are also placed along the detour routes.

Ontario Urban Forest Council’s conference, Nov. 4 – 5

Registration is open for the Ontario Urban Forest Council’s annual
conference, entitled Healthy Communities are Rooted in Urban Forests.
The conference will explore how urban forests contribute to the social,
psychological and physical health for individuals and communities. For
