The first annual Georgian Lakelands Family Chicken Roast will take place on Sept. 16 at Bayview Memorial Park in Oro-Medonte, just northeast of Barrie. We invite you, your family, employees and associates to join in a fun evening. Activities are planned for adults and children. The Ministry of Labour requires that all landscapers who use chainsaws on the job are trained on their safe operation. This two-day seminar helps satisfy these requirements. The second day will be spent in the field working on techniques and safe operation while cutting trees. Both seminars begin each day at 8:30 a.m., and go until 4 p.m. For more details and to register see 
The Windsor Chapter’s annual golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 11 at the Tilbury Golf Course 20425 City Rd. 46. The day includes 18 holes of golf, hotdog and pop at the turn, steak dinner and great prizes.

The 2011 Safety Groups Program is set to begin a new season. Designed to promote health and safety in
Hear Dutch designer Jacqueline van der Kloet speak on bulbs, in a special member-only lecture Sept. 16 at the Toronto Botanical Garden. Her stylish naturalistic designs combine brilliant mixes of perennials and flower bulbs, and her talk will be specifically tailored to industry professionals — she works with the likes of Piet Oudolf. The event features continental breakfast, lecture at 9:00 a.m. and a post-lecture tour. Tickets are $15. 
Vineland Research and Innovation Centre and Landscape Ontario are presenting a variety of researchers, extension and industry affiliates, who will give 15-minute presentations on their programs. At the beginning of the day there will be a hands-on tree liner production session in the Vineland retractable roof houses. Registration is $45, with costs covering lunch, and a CD of trial summaries for 2009 and interim reports for the 2010 season. The first 1st annual Ontario Parks Association Equipment Education and Golf Forum will take place on Sept. 8 at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club, Milton. Registration is at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. A shotgun start is at 8:15 a.m. The event includes a barbecue lunch, with the keynote item at 2:10 p.m., entitled, The Drive to Reduce Emissions, Tier 4 Engines, followed by Hand Held Equipment Emissions Update, 2 vs 4 cycle and Hybrids in Park Applications, including biofuels and smart cars. 
The birdhouse design project ‘For the Birds’ was initiated to bring attention to the Toronto Botanical Garden mandate to promote environmental awareness through education, enlighten the community to the plight of songbirds, promote wildlife preservation, ecological awareness and sustainability.
