Learn to take great photos, Aug. 12
Gain a greater understanding of how to make a powerful photograph.
Client presentations, marketing materials and the LO Awards of Excellence
program all require quality photos. This course covers composition, natural and
artificial lighting and everything you need to know about filters, formats and
controls. The presentation will give designers, garden centres, landscape,
grounds maintenance and lighting contractors an edge, plus inspiration to
always carry a camera.
Participants should bring their cameras, existing images and marketing material
for review. The course takes place on
Thurs., Aug. 12, at the LO Home Office in Milton,

Small-scale
farmers can have a say

The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council is
researching labour needs on farms with less than $100,000 in gross receipts. Go

or call CAHRC at 1-866-430-7457, ext. 228, to complete the survey by phone. CAHRC
works with industry leaders, governments, and education stakeholders to
research, develop and communicate solutions to the challenges in agriculture
employment and skills development.

Landscape
Management Network, in partnership with Landscape Ontario and the Prosperity Partnership, is
hosting a two-day workshop on July 12 and 13 to help you plan a profitable
season. The workshop covers creating an operating budget for your company,
setting sales goals, expense targets, realistic expectations for profit and
understanding how to price your labour and equipment. Learn about operations

The International Society of Arboriculture, Ontario Chapter,

Auction
There is still time to get in on the opportunity for sponsorship or donations
to the Growers Group’s annual auction fundraiser. This year’s event takes place
at the LO home office in Milton
on July 15 in conjunction with Member Appreciation Day. In addition to bidding
on outstanding nursery stock and landscape products, guests can take part in
informative demonstrations, tour the trial gardens and visit with LO- and
CNLA-endorsed suppliers to learn about great money-saving opportunities. To see

Annual trial garden open house for industry,
Aug. 20
Visit the University
of Guelph annual trials
at the LO office in the morning, and see for yourself how next year’s crop of
new plants performs in the landscape. Trial garden manager, Rodger Tschanz will
present his findings. In the afternoon, follow him to the University of Guelph
trial gardens at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute to learn how the new plants
fared in another zone. The public is invited to tour the gardens at LO on Aug.
