Turf is topic in Waterloo – Nov. 5

Sustainable turf management will be the main topic under discussion at the Waterloo Chapter’s general meeting on Wednesday, November 5, at the Knights of Columbus at 145 Dearborn Place, Waterloo. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. There will be a 50/50 draw. We are searching for the Jack of Hearts, with the pot now over $300.

Rob Witherspoon, director of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute, University of Guelph, is the guest speaker. As landscape managers face increasing customer and regulatory pressure to reduce pesticide, water and energy use, the need for more sustainable management practices becomes even more urgent. This presentation will provide an overview of the foundation of sustainable turf management practices including environmental management, species selection, cultural techniques and pest management. A summary of current and future pest management alternatives will also be provided.
